VERSO CELLARS INTRODUCES PREMIUM CABERNET SAUVIGNON

PALISADE, Colo., September 15, 2005--Wine aficionados Linda Cumming and Paul Phillips have launched Verso Cellars, a boutique Colorado winery that will focus exclusively on the production of a fine Cabernet Sauvignon.

The first vintage of the wine, Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, is due for release in September 2005 with a retail price estimated at approximately $30. The initial production is 2,300 cases.

Verso Cellars’ Cabernet Sauvignon is made exclusively from grapes produced on the winery’s East Orchard Mesa vineyard, utilizing 15 acres in the shadow of Colorado’s Bookcliff Mountain Range. Its wine is an expert blend of only the highest quality cabernet grapes, according to vintner Paul Phillips. “This is truly a labor of love for Linda and me,” he explains, “and we have paid careful attention to all the little details that elevate a good wine into a great one. Our vineyard management, for example, includes the practice of dropping nearly half of our grape production back on the ground to intensify the flavor of the grapes. We also age the wine significantly longer than the industry average.”

Phillips notes that the growing conditions in the Palisades area—hot days and cool nights—is a close match to the French wine country, and Verso Cellars’ resulting wine will have a similar taste to a fine French Bordeaux. Verso Cellars also prides itself on using only new and once-used premium French oak barrels—hand selected by the owners.

Verso Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 is a young Cabernet with layers of dark cherry, blackberry and currant that blend with hints of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon spice. From its initial dark berry nose, the wine builds intensity, revealing extra nuances of black cherry and dark chocolate, with subtle hints of smoke on the palate.

The wine will be available at select stores in Colorado and via the winery website, www.versocellars.com. The couple also expects to open a tasting room for their wine in Winter Park, Colorado this fall.
